Someone who agrees to pay the rent if the tenant does not. Usually a parent, and usually asked for where the tenant has no rental history or a low income.
The guarantee has to be in writing and signed, and it should say exactly what it covers and for how long. A guarantee that covers only a fixed term may fall away once that term ends, which matters more now every tenancy is periodic.
It is only worth having if the guarantor could actually pay. Referencing the guarantor is as important as referencing the tenant.
