Check the figure they used, get compatible software, and catch up on any updates that are already late.
HMRC signs people up automatically where their records show qualifying income over £50,000 in the 2024 to 2025 tax year. The letter is not a mistake in most cases, but it is worth checking against the return you actually filed.
If deadlines have already gone past, you create the digital records back to the start of the tax year and send the overdue updates. The records have to exist from the beginning of the year, not from the day you signed up.
There is no simple opt out. If you think it should not apply to you, take it up with HMRC or look at whether an exemption fits. What to do is on gov.uk.
